Nestlé inaugurated a new EGP250 million coffee production facility in Cairo in late January. The $14 million factory includes eight production lines of soluble coffee mixes and the capacity to produce 14,000 tons, the company says.
The Bonjorno factory came after Nestlé acquired Caravan Marketing Company, a leading instant coffee company in Egypt and owner of the Bonjorno brand, in January 2017.
The 137,000 square ft. (12,740 m2) operation is expected to employ 240 people and 7,000 indirect jobs.
“We are delighted to inaugurate this new factory, which operates using Nestlé’s strong manufacturing and innovation capabilities leveraging the most advanced technology,” said Magdi Batato, e.v.p. and head of operations for Nestlé SA. “This factory opening reflects Nestlé’s ambition to invest in Egypt and foster the development of the rapidly growing soluble coffee segment, which has been gaining popularity among Egyptians. We aim to have the Bonjorno factory as an export hub for Coffee in the region.”
“The inauguration of our third factory reflects the importance of Egypt to us and our confidence is clearly highlighted by the extensive investments we have made in Egypt over the past five years,” added Moataz El-Hout, chairman and c.e.o. of Nestlé North East Africa. “In the last few years, our local workforce to reached almost 3,500 direct employees and invested almost 1 billion EGP ($56 million) into manufacturing, distribution facilities and skill development. We have been part of the Egyptians’ lives for over 100 years and we are confident that Egypt offers great business and economic opportunities.”
