Target Exclusively Fair Trade
Archer Farms coffee at Target stores
United States
Archer Farms, Target Corp.’s flagship coffee brand, will use certified fair trade beans by the year 2022, according to a Reuters report. Certification will be provided through Fair Trade USA and applies to both bag and pod products.
The Archer Farms brand is a private label organic foods line that started in 2006. Target sells vegetables, fruit, frozen meats, and other products in addition to coffee under the Archer Farms flag.
Efforts to apply fair trade standards already are underway, according to the Reuters report. About 20% of Archer Farms’ 6 million pounds of coffee each year is already certified.
In establishing its sourcing goals, Target wants to eliminate forced labor on its supply chain, enhance worker safety and optimize water use. It announced a forest-products policy in 2017, which had a long-term goal of sourcing wood, paper and packaging from forests certified through the Forest Stewardship Council.
