Ron Joyce, who founded the iconic Tim Horton’s coffee-and-donut chain, died Jan. 31. He was 88.
Joyce started as the first franchisee in 1964, working alongside co-founder and NHL hockey player Tim Horton. Horton died 10 years later after a car accident and Royce assumed full ownership, building a global brand. There are 4,500 Tim Horton’s stores around the world with another 1,500 scheduled to open in China during the next 10 years.
The Royce family released a statement saying Royce passed away in his Burlington, Ontario, home with family and loved ones.
