Blue Bottle Coffee, Inc., the San Francisco Bay Area-based roaster, is consolidating its operations 90 miles north in West Sacramento. Roasting operations in its Oakland location will end next year, according to published reports.
Several news sources indicate all West Coast roasting operations will be combined under one roof near California’s capital city. A packing operation already is in place there.
The move increases the Sacramento area’s role in coffee production. Coffee companies already operating in the area include the San Francisco Bay Coffee Co., Java City Coffee, Pachamama Coffee Cooperative, Old Soul Co., Coffee Works, Temple Coffee, and Insight Coffee Roasters.
Nestlè purchased a 68% stake in Blue Bottle in 2017 at a reported price of $425 million. The coffee company has 88 locations in California, Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., Japan, and South Korea.
