A new mobile application, recently launched by Jamaica Coffee Corporation, is designed to help farmers dramatically increase their yields.
The app, reported by Reuters in late June, provides information and videos on best cultivation practices and gives farmers a new way to interact with an agronomist and other farmers using the system.
“Essentially, we wanted to be able to track the coffee process from the farm to the cup, primarily to give traceability to our customers,” says David Shirley, Jamaica Coffee Corporation managing director.
The application was developed in cooperation with the Jamaica Business Fund and the Consultancy Inc., Reuters reported.
As many as 14 farmers participated in the project’s initial phase and the goal is to have the app in use across the island.
