Diversity and quality is the theme for International Coffee Week (ICW) activities that include panels and workshops spanning three days in Belo Horizonte. Women in coffee, sustainability and family succession in coffee business are some of issues that will receive a special attention from national and international speakers.
“This is a great opportunity to discuss different perspectives, to exchange experiences and to make businesses,” explains Mariana Proença, the journalist responsible for organizing the national and international panels.
According to the organization, speakers like Graciano Cruz from Los Lajones Estate from Panama, Dr. Flávio Borém from Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) and Josiane Cotrim from IWCA Brazil are some of the confirmed names for lectures. During three intense days, from Oct. 25 to 27 all those attending will speak the same language in Brazil: coffee.
The event’s dates were changed to receive different coffee samples right after harvest. “This is the chance for national and international buyers taste beans with very different sensorial profiles from several Brazilian regions. After all, Brazilian coffee is not the same”, says Proença. The ICW will gather coffee growers, roasters, tasters, exporters, buyers, suppliers, entrepreneurs, baristas, coffee shop owners and enthusiasts.
During the three days, more than 25 simultaneous events will be held focusing on Market & Consumption, Knowledge & Innovation and Business & Entrepreneurship. Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) certifications will take place at Expominas in partnership with the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA) during the event.
International Coffee Week is an initiative between Sistema FAEMG, Café Editora, Sebrae, the Government of Minas Gerais, through the Minas Gerais Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa) and Codemig.
