In the United States, women on average earn less than men performing the same work. Starbucks announced in March that it has achieved pay parity within its ranks for all ethnicities, races, and gender.
In the US the gender pay gap is estimated at 20 cents. This means that women, on average, earn 80 cents on the dollar compared to men.
Lucy Helm, chief partner officer at Starbucks said that people “performing similar work” in locations across the United States will now be paid equally.”
“This accomplishment is the result of 10 years of work and commitment,” Helm said.
The president of Starbucks Canada pledged to do the same. Starbucks did not state a timeline for ending disparities in other markets, but the statement it released says it will work to do so with “deliberate speed.”
