The National Tea and Coffee Development Board (NTCDB) has proposed a new strategic plan that focuses on coffee quality control and productivity.
The NTCDB’s five-year plan, extending through 2021, calls for five major areas of emphasis with a goal of developing commercial arabica coffee farming in 41 districts deemed to be suitable for coffee cultivation.
Sheshkanta Gautam, executive director of NTCDB, told the Himalayan News Service the strategy focuses on arabica coffee because the variety already is being cultivated in many areas it can bring a better price than robusta coffee.
