Registration opened mid-May and less than two months later, Sustainable Harvest announced it was cancelling Let’s Talk Coffee Global this year. The annual global conference for the Portland, Ore. Importer’s supply chain was slated to take place in Guarapari in the Espirito Santo region of Brazil from Sept. 10-14. As in previous years, the event aimed to bring buyers, financiers, insurers, and producers together.
When we asked David Griswold, president of Sustainable Harvest Coffee Importers, about whether interest (based on registrations) in this year’s event was on par with that for previous years, he said, “We were seeing interest, but we heard from many potential roaster attendees that the costly Brazil visas—as well as the lengthy processing times for them—were tempering their interest. The market also posed a challenge: With C-market prices trending downward and currently hovering around $1.25, many producers were having to reduce expenses and therefore unable to make it to Brazil.”
Griswold noted that all registered attendees have been contacted about the cancellation and will receive a full refund.
