The Rainforest Alliance has awarded several recipients for excellence in advancing sustainability and climate goals at its annual spring gala.
Nigel Sizer, the newly appointed president of the Rainforest Alliance said, “These companies, individuals, and countries are leading by example, and their efforts show tangible, scalable results. We are proud to work with all of our honorees in protecting forests and supporting farmers and communities across the world. We believe that to bring about real change, we will all have to work together.”
Among those honored was the Kroger Co., one of the world’s largest food retailers. The grocer operates 2,700 stores under two dozen banners across the US. The company’s sustainability motto is “Improving today to protect tomorrow.” Kroger’s sustainability goals include producing zero waste, increasing sustainable sourcing, and conserving natural resources.
Many items in the Kroger family of stores feature the green frog seal, such as Private Selection Coffees, Private Selection Roses, and Home Sense tissues and other rolled tissue products.
"Kroger is proud to receive the Rainforest Alliance's first-ever supply chain partnership award," said Jessica Adelman, Kroger's group vice president of corporate affairs. "We appreciate this recognition of Kroger, our supplier-partner, Clearwater Paper, and our joint commitment to a sustainable supply chain."
