Synesso, a manufacturer of semi-automatic espresso machines, has been acquired by Middleby Corporation.
The price of the sale was not disclosed but a Middleby statement described Synesso as having reached $10 million in revenues. The deal was announced Dec. 2.
Middleby, based in the suburban Chicago city of Elgin, develops, manufactures and markets foodservice equipment for both commercial and residential use.
Synesso was founded in 2004 by Mark Barnett, a former La Marzocco engineer. The Seattle-based espresso machine company became known for its Hydra and Cyncra machines.
“Synesso is a highly innovative brand and further expands our coffee and beverage platform. Middleby is well-positioned within the beverage category offering some of the most advanced equipment in today’s fast-growing coffee market,” Middleby c.e.o. Tim FitzGerald said in a statement. “Our Seattle-based coffee companies are able to provide operators with a variety of sought-after options including automated bean to cup, cold brew, nitro brew, traditional carafe and now semi-automatic espresso. There are strong synergies between Synesso and our current U.S. coffee brands Concordia, JoeTap, and SsBrewtech. Together, as a group, Middleby is a leader in the industry with coffee diversity and innovation.”
