Sandalj Trading Company presented a Colombian coffee grown and processed exclusively by women at HOST 2015 in Milan, Italy. This product represents a collaboration between the Trieste-based coffee importer and the Asociación de Mujeres Cafeteras del Cauca of the Cauca region of Colombia. The handpicked castillo and colombia cherries are grown in full-sun at an altitude of 1,820 meters above sea level, then washed and dried in the sun.
Head of quality at Sandalj, Edy Bieker described the coffee: “With captivating sweetness, this espresso cup offers introductory aromas of red berries tinged with orange marmalade and cocoa. These are followed by nuances of caramel and almonds that then develop into a surprising aftertaste of pineapple in syrup.” Proceeds from purchasing this coffee go towards improving living conditions and training on agricultural techniques to increase product quality through time.
