A new program designed to increase productivity and quality within Vietnam’s coffee industry is underway.
The Vietnam Coffee - Cocoa Association confirms the new program limits coffee production to 1.48 million acres with an emphasis on planting new trees with higher yield and quality.
The industry also aims to increase processed coffee exports to generate as much as US$6 billion in revenue by the year 2030. That equates to a 400% increase. To reach that goal, 345,000 to 395,000 acres would need to be replanted, officials said.
Vietnam is among the world leaders in robusta production and export, the association said. Most exports, however, are unprocessed beans with little added value.
