Two companies based in Seattle, Wash. have garnered attention this year for advances in espresso machines.
Synesso debuted espresso machines featuring manual and volumetric paddleshift controls at the Specialty Coffee Association of America in Seattle.
Mavam, in a semi-private showcase, also soft-launched its equipment line when much of the coffee world came to SCAA. The official American debut for Mavam’s under-counter espresso machine took place in Portland, Ore. during Coffee Fest, where it won the award for best new product.
Both machines tout features designed to give exacting baristas the control they want in pulling shots: with Synesso’s MVP, they can program up to six shot profiles and with Mavam’s system, a proprietary heat transfer system assures temperature-stability.
