Nestlé recently debuted a compact coffee-roasting machine that baristas can use in the coffee shop.
Called the Roastelier, the unit allows baristas-turned-roasters to select preset roasting profiles and “unlock and simplify the art of roasting in the shop,” according to a company statement.
The system comes with a range of top-grade arabica coffees sourced from different coffee-growing regions. The preset roasting profiles are intended to match the coffees provided. A QR code reader recognizes the coffee type and offers profile options.
"We have developed Roastelier in less than 12 months, capitalizing on our R&D expertise in beverage system technologies,” said Reinhold Jakobi, who heads up the Nestlé Professional Strategic Business Unit. “With this artisanal on-site roasting solution, baristas can now offer hassle-free, freshly roasted coffee, with hundreds of personalized blends at their fingertips, to cater to the increasing diversity of consumer tastes and desires. This significantly enhances both authenticity and 'coffee cred' at their outlets. The novel solution will help passionate baristas become master roasters."
The roaster also includes a “plug-and-play” filter connected to the roaster to catch gas emissions naturally produced during roasting.
The Roastelier is first being launched in Greece and Scandinavia before a larger rollout in Europe and Latin America throughout the year.
