Piero Bambi, son of La Marzocco founder Giuseppe Bambi and a contributor to the company for decades, passed away March 22 in Florence, Italy, after a long battle with cancer. He was 86.
Bambi worked as a designer and engineer as he guided the growth of the international espresso machine manufacturer.
“His love for espresso and the technical expertise that he inherited from his father led him to achieving significant technological innovations in an aim for the best result in the cup,” the company said in a statement. “While deeply tied to Italian tradition and ingenuity, Piero was open to any culture that could instill new concepts concerning espresso coffee, a beverage which he considered to be magical.”
Bambi sold majority control of La Marzocco in 1994 but remained part of the organization as honorary president and continued to work every day, the company said.
Memorial service plans will be announced at a later date.
