American coffee drinkers, safely keeping their social distance at home, are pushing at-home coffee sales higher.
Market research conducted by Nielsen shows packaged coffee sales climbed nearly 25% through retail outlets during a four-week period ending March 21.
Packaged coffee alone was up 27.3%, Nielsen said, as consumers stocked their homes with supplies and steered away from retail coffee outlets. But while Starbucks, Dunkin’, and others have limited coffee shop sales to drive-thru windows, their ready-to-drink offerings on grocery store shelves have supported a 9.7% increase for Starbucks and a 6.5% jump for Dunkin’ brands.
The sales increases come as no surprise to consumers who have seen shortages in their favorite brands.
