Volcafe, the green coffee company based in Switzerland, appointed Tim Scharrer as chief operating officer and regional director for Europe and East Africa.
Scharrer has spent three decades in the operations and management of green coffee trading. Among his postings was an eight-year stint at Carcafe, the company's branch in Colombia. He also worked in the United States and Germany.
During part of a 15-year period working at Starbucks, he headed its trading company, leading its global sourcing of coffee and cocoa. He also handled oversight of farmer support centers, research and development, and sustainability efforts.
Volcafe managing director Trishul Mandana hailed Scharrer's return: “I am very pleased to welcome Tim back to the Volcafe family. He brings a strong and deep coffee experience making him immediately a valuable member of our team. His knowledge and leadership will support us in our mission of making coffee business better, together.”
