Sri Lanka’s Bogawantalawa Tea Estate is planning to enter the lucrative green and organic tea processing as part of their new marketing strategy. Chairman D. J. Ambani announced in the company’s annual report a new production factory for green tea at their Norwood Estate. This facility will process both green and organic tea to take advantage of the growing health consciousness among global consumers.
The company’s Rockwood Estate and Osborne Estate have obtained the mandatory organic certification. Bogawantalawa also plans to diversify into these teas, in line with the market demand for such quality and flavor. Ambani said the company borrowed $454,000 (INRs.30 million) to establish the green tea factory at Norwood Estate and has a long-term objective of conversion of other tea areas to the organic variety.
