MEXICO
Five lots received jury scores of 90 or higher during recent judging of Mexican-grown coffees in the Cup of Excellence (COE) program organized by the Alliance for Coffee Excellence.
The No. 1 lot, a natural processed Gesha from Chiapas, received a 93.07 score, the highest ever given in Mexico competitions. The competition, conducted with COE in-country partners AMECAFE with support by SADARPA and BanaMex, also showcased the state of Veracruz. Six of the top 10 lots came from that region of the country. In all, 248 coffee samples were submitted and 40 advanced to an online auction.
“The coffees this country has to offer are super sweet daily drinkers, with the kind of profile I feel like the world (or at least my corner of the world) grew up drinking—and it’s exciting to finally see renewed global interest in the coffees here,” jurist Emma Chevalier said.
