Thailand's specialty coffee strategy

The farmers are subjected to price ceilings, due to smuggling, and other cheap imports. They have little choice but to sell to the few traders that control distribution domestically. Meanwhile, costs rise, and revenue does not. Exporting quality beans to favorable markets may yield better prices than being forced to sell domestically.
